Knife Storms
“Hey, how’s your day been so far?”
You’re a piece of work and it’s art
Getting all hung up on imaginary problems
I’m a piece of work and it ain’t art
Not focusing on what’s real and what’s not
Whatever happens, happens.
“It's been good, just got off of work, what about you?”
I thought your chapter had just started
The fact is your chapter just ended
There’s a lock-and-key on that book
Just be grateful I gave you the spare
We were angels banished from above
Our only choice was to become demons
But we were feeling devilishly lucky
Having to not listen to anyone else
Regardless my soul and yours were vibing
Driving and listening to our playlist
However, your ghouls were dancing
While mine were snapping and bobbing
You’re going to carry that weight.
“Kinda had a bit of a long day…”
I’m dreaming a dream I’ll never wake up from
Like I am standing outside in a goddamn knife storm
Looking at your 2nd-floor window with an umbrella in one hand
And in the other hand an ochre fiddle and blue horn
Just looking for something real and with substance
Just hoping for something to aid self-subsistence
I’m going to carry that weight.
“...But I’m doing alright for now”
I want to forget you, I want to try but I can’t
We were concealing the truth
We were and are made of mistakes
If you get too worried and anxious
About what could possibly go wrong
You might miss an opportunity to do something breathtaking
All you can do is get up and try to make it right
You can’t doubt yourself now
We’re going to carry that weight.
